Mavis Staples & Los Lobos - "Fill The House! An Evening of Great Music Benefiting The Food Bank Of Westchester”

    7pm

    Tarrytown Music Hall Tarrytown, NY

    stapleslobossw

    A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation

Two Music Hall favorites return for one incredible night of rock, soul, gospel, and more!
Mavis Staples is living, breathing history.  She is an alchemist of American music, having continuously crossed genre lines like no musician since Ray Charles. Weaving herself into the very fabric of gospel, soul, folk, pop, R&B, blues, rock, and hip hop over the last 60 years, this iconic singer has seen and sung through so many changes, always rising up to meet every road. Now in her seventh decade, with the release of her new album Livin’ on a High Note (ANTI-), she is only gaining momentum. Produced by M. Ward with songs by Neko Case, Justin Vernon, Nick Cave, Ben Harper, Tune-Yards, Aloe Blacc and others, the album serves as a summation and furtherance of her illustrious career.  Refusing to fade away, she continues to tour incessantly, remaining as vital, engaged, and true as always.  There is no persona; she is, simply and untouchably, Mavis—and Livin’ on a High Note is the symphony of her life.
Since 1974, East L.A.'s Los Lobos have been exploring the artistic and commercial possibilities of American biculturalism, moving back and forth between their Chicano roots and their love of American rock & roll, knocking down imposing boundaries to formulate music that is distinctly a thing unto itself. Initially gaining fame as part of the early-Eighties roots-rock revival, they didn't so much strip music down as mix it up, playing norteño, blues, country, Tex-Mex, ballads, folk, and rock.  The group -- who enjoyed calling themselves "just another band from East L.A." -- have been guests on albums by Ry Cooder, Elvis Costello, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Roomful of Blues, and Paul Simon, and their music has been featured in films such as La Bamba and Desperado. While often cited as one of the great bands of Latino Rock, Los Lobos' eclectic sound in fact defined them as a vital example of America's cultural melting pot. This cross-cultural appeal has sold millions of records and garnered Los Lobos their share of Grammy Awards.

The Swing Era: Revolution in Rhythm

    8:00pm

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall
Broadway at 60th Street, 5th Floor
    New York, NY 10019

jalco_wyntonmarsalis2016Paolo Pasta Lanna and The Rhythm Stompers join the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra for three fabulous shows Thursday NOV 17 - Satruday NOV 19.

See below for more detail and Tickets. The Concert will also be LIVE STREAMING THURSDAY NOVEMBER 17th, 2016. Share this direct link to the show:  https://livestream.com/jazz/the-swing-era-revolution-in-rhythm

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis showcases the timelessness of swing as a genre, cultural period, and musical concept. The big bands that emerged during the Swing Era defined the sound of America – bringing people out of the Depression and ushering in a new sense of possibility....Music director, composer, and JLCO trumpeter Marcus Printup will debut new compositions inspired by this formative decade, as well as arrangements of Swing Era classics and rarely heard works by Duke Ellington, Fletcher Henderson, and Benny Goodman, demonstrating what made jazz the definitive dance music of the 1930s.....

To bring the Swing Era to life before your very eyes, swing dancers Paolo Pasta Lanna and The Rhythm Stompers join the JLCO.

Don’t wait any further: dress up, rub up your dancing shoes, grab your partner and join us for the most explosive event to ever land in town.
It’s a promise: after a night with us, you will never dance the same again.

    Starring:
★ Spinning the records: Monsieur ALESSIO GRANATA and Monsieur ALE LEUCI are ready to entertain you throughout the night with their special selection of rock 'n' roll, fifties, sixties, swing, rhythm and blues, garage, beat, doo wop, American, English and Italian Graffiti, boogie- woogie, twist, shout, loud, the soundtracks of the most exciting couple of decades of all times. This same sound has been sending the Italians nuts recently causing them to shake their hips.

PinMeUP Hair is the styling work of Erica, a freelance hairstylist that specializes in vintage inspired styling. Originally from Florida, Erica always had a passion for all things vintage, primarily the 1940's, 50's and 60's. She move to New York to start a career in Fashion, and has her own Vintage inspired clothing line, Dressed to Kill Clothing. It was during her time in fashion school that she began styling hair for all of the major pinup photographers in the area, as well as various magazines and alternative models. PinMeUp Hair has been featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine, Italian Vogue, Traditional Rodz and Culture, and many other books and print.

★ Live on stage: MARILU’ (ITALY)
Marilù have been on the road for more than 10 years now, performing on the most important Italian stages and rock’n’roll festivals, such as the Summer Jamboree in Senigallia.
The sound of the band meets halfway between twist and doo-wop, rhythm ’n’ blues and surf, it’s a fresh rock’n’roll that started from blues but then switched towards the old-school country: “oldies but still goldies” hits with a personal new interpretation and style, sometimes bravely forced into a new and more modern dress.

Jumpin’ Entertainment is thrilled to bring you another Twistin’ & Shakin’ Dance Party on LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2016 when we feature the Little Big Band outfit SWINGADELIC!

And look out for members of the Rhythm Stompers who may perform a showcase number LIVE.

Swingadelic, known as New York City’s greatest “little big band,” will deliver the solid big band feel of Ellington, Basie, Billy Eckstine, Hampton, Sinatra, along with fabulous 50’s Rock n Roll, Jump Blues and some Bang up Boogie Woogie.

The VFW HALL is a former Asbury Park National Guard Armory, (now the VFW) dates back to 1915 and once housed troupes heading for World Wars I and II. But in the 1940’s and 1950’s it also played another historic role. The large hall inside provided space for huge dances, featuring some of the country’s leading African American music entertainers. (Asbury Park was a segregated city at that time.) There was no stage in the Armory then, only a large wooden dance floor with an overlooking second floor balcony. Billy Eckstine played there in 1944, with young Dizzy Gillespie in his band.

    Rock That Swing festival

    Munich, Germany

RockThatSwing_slider-103World of Swing proudly presents the next international Rock That Swing Festival in Munich. The festival celebrates the diversity of the dances and music of the Swing and Rock’n’Roll era from the 20s to the 50s. Over a span of five days, the fantastic dance nights, hot live music, shows, competitions, numerous workshops, and passionate dancers from all over the world create an inspiring and unforgettable atmosphere, unmatched in its variety.

During the daytime more than 50 of the world’s best teachers offer a vast variety of more than 200 classes. Dancers at any level, from beginners all the way up to teachers, can create their own individual schedule selecting from classes in Lindy Hop, Boogie Woogie, Charleston, Balboa, Shag, Authentic Jazz, Rockabilly Jive, Afro, Blues, and more.

The 11th edition will again offer a fantastic line-up of the best bands and teachers in great locations, including two nights at the marvelous ballroom of the Deutsches Theater in the city center of Munich. Additionally the organizers and dance icons Marcus & Bärbl will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their partnership.

I will be a special guest DeeJay during the weekend and really looking forward to returning to Rock That Swing!
