My Lindy Juice Fast

The 7-10 Lindy Juice Fast

As a lifetime dancer, athlete and overall fitness nut, I’m always looking to share health benefits of the activities that I’m involved with. This week it’s my Lindy Juice Fast and I’m thrilled to report that I’m feeling fabulous in my 5th day into this and I’ve decided to share the experience to date.

Juice requires hardly any digestion, the nutritional goodness gets rapidly into your system while giving your digestive system a rest. Your body can then use that saved energy to clean out your system. Juice fasting gives the body a phenomenal chance to rejuvenate and restore. With this method, healing can be extraordinary…we lose weight, skin becomes radiant, illnesses are healed, and we detox.

Day One

This began with a nervousness that I haven’t felt in a while due to my concern that I would not follow through with this challenge. It’s Monday, it’s been over 2 years since my last 7 day fast and I had been putting this off, finding excuses left and right. The most common reason being “darn, I’ve got another special event with gourmet food that I certainly can’t miss out on.” Then I turned on the juicer, added my top choice of veggies and roots (ginger, beets, celery, kale, carrot, and cucumber) and I was off and running figuratively and literally. After downing 16 oz, I took off for an outdoor jog followed by 30 minutes of calisthenics. When I returned I followed up with another juice and then found myself desiring a real breakfast. But I stuck to the juice fast and managed to find enough work to distract me from any further temptations for the rest of the day. In the evening, my 2 hr dance rehearsal went surprisingly well and I felt lively. By the time I got home, I was exhausted and fell right to sleep.

Juice Total:

4 glasses veggie only (16 oz )

Lots of water

Day Two

Woke up starved and thirsty. But after a quick glass of water and a dog walk, I was at the juicer preparing the day’s new batch. Again, there was a nervousness that I would back out and fall to the temptations of food. Feeding the pups doesn’t help, especially when I’m providing them home made soup (made from the grinds of the previous juicing) plus beef and beef bones. So the smells were lofting and driving me bananas. I cheated and ate a tablespoon of the soup. But I survived and moved on to the days activities. The afternoon required an energy boost and I succumbed my desires to have a Fruit Juice Smoothie. This was necessary at keeping me happy and on track (staying away from any hard food). The energy boost gave me the push to get through my fitness workout and it helped me to stick with the program moving forward. To curb my late night habits of eating, I went with my trusty Lemon Water, Honey and Cayenne Pepper water.

Juice Total:

4 glasses veggie only (16 oz )

1 Fruit Smoothie (Blueberry, Banana, Cashews, Unsweetened Soy milk, Spring Water, Garden of Life Raw Protein powder.)

1 “Celebrity Fast” drink of choice  (Spring Water, Lemon, Cayenne Pepper and Honey)

Lots of water

Day Three

Woke up feeling surprisingly awake and mainly craving juice. I got through the day easily and everything went great until the evening with 3 hours of dance classes. That drained my energy and I didn’t pack enough fresh juice to last me thru to the end. I succumbed to eating some grapes and an apple at the studio. Then my wonderful student provided me with a Kombucha. That hit the spot and curtailed my hunger and got me through the rest of the night feeling refreshed and comfortable.

4 glasses veggie only (16 oz )

1 Kombucha

5 Grapes and 1/2 Apple

1 “Celebrity Fast” drink of choice  (Spring Water, Lemon, Cayenne Pepper and Honey)

Day Four

Woke up feeling surprisingly awake and craving juice only. Today was pretty much jamming and no out of control craving issues. Today I ran out of time to juice before my dance program and thus had to make a Smoothie (was faster to prepare). During my classes felt strong but perhaps a little foggy at the start of the first hour. When I returned home I went with my trusty Lemon Water, Honey and Cayenne Pepper water which helped me wind down.

Lots of water

Day Five

I awoke feeling good, but because I fell back to sleep for two hours, this caused a problem. I got up late and was overly starved. I felt dizzy and uncomfortable and needed juicing quickly to remedy. Once I made the juices, it took about a half hour for them to kick in. The day was pretty much jamming thereafter and no out of control craving issues. This is where I’m at today. Will blog again when I end the fast which may be Sunday or Monday depending on what my body is telling me.

Juice Total:

4 glasses veggie only (16 oz )

1/2 Heirloom Tomato (purchased from a local farmer’s market.)

Lots of water

I’ll provide all the ingredients of my veggie juices in my followup when this fast has ended.
