Fruit Smoothies that are great for Heart Health

If I had to pick my one thing in my diet that really gets me going, that get’s me Jazzed up and ready to take on the day, this is it. I call it my Dairy Free Blueberry Power Fruit smoothie. It’s jam packed with great stuff for your body. Studies show protein works as a building block for healthy skin, bones, and your heart. Plus, a protein-packed breakfast or lunch can deter you from overeating and a dose of protein after training or dancing helps build and repair muscle tissue. I make this shake almost everyday and have been for over 4 years now.

Dairy Free Blueberry Power Fruit Smoothie

1 cup cold UNSWEETENED almond milk (organic UNSWEETENED rice milk or coconut milk would also be delicious)

1/2 cup Frozen organic Blueberries

1/2 cup Frozen organic Strawberries

1/2 banana (peel the banana)

2 tablespoons peanut butter

1 teaspoon honey

1 tablespoon flax seeds

1 inch square of an organic dark chocolate bar

1 cup spring water or filtered water

1 scoop of RAW PROTEIN powdered protein mix by Garden of Life® or other organic vegetarian based powder mix such as naturade’s SOY FREE VEG protein booster.

In a NUTRI-BLAST or other blender type that can pulverize, combine all ingredients (starting with the frozen fruit first). Blend until no chunks of anything remain, and the mixture is thoroughly mixed. Pour into a glass. Drink half, then do your sports or dance activities and drink remainder after or in middle of your workout.

note: The protein in this smoothie comes from the peanut butter, the flax seeds and from the RAW PROTEIN powder (organic sprouts and sprouted brown rice)

This shake is also great for your heart health, especially the blueberries, strawberries and dark chocolate. According to this recent study women aged 25 through 42 who ate more than three servings of blueberries and strawberries a week had a 32% lower risk of heart attack compared with those who ate less. “Men are likely to benefit from eating berries as well, although this study included only women, said Cassidy, who is head of the department of nutrition at Norwich Medical School at the University of East Anglia, in England.” By Denise Mann HealthDay Reporter

And I should note, it is my view that this shake does much more for your heart health than any cholesterol lowering statin drugs. I’m firmly against the use of these. Here’s a great article as to why you should stay away from these dangerous prescription drugs.
